Reading the MSDS Should Be Instructed to Your Cleaning Staff

By Felton Seagroves

The cleaning staff should be properly instructed on how to handle the substances and materials you have with your job and on how to safely use them and this is through the help of the materials safety data sheets or the MSDS. Your cleaning staff should have a proper training about MSDS because giving them reading materials is not enough for them to learn.

Ensuring safety for the workers is the responsibility of every employer that is why they really need to have an MSDS or the materials safety data sheets on hand. The employers should always see to it that the MSDS that they are using should be revised no more than three years from its issuance.

Leaflets should also be considered to be given to the staff, to make it easy for them to learn all of the chemicals before any urgent circumstances occur. A label on each container of the substances will help the staff determine the type of chemicals you are pointing to. A list of words must be also used since this will provide the staff an easy recall of the all the substance.

It is a critical part when your cleaning workers know the significance of why MSDS is needed. This summarizes the issues concerning health and safety and how we can address them as this is not avoided in the workplace because we are dealing with chemicals. This sheet discussed about the precautions that we need to follow as well as the effects on the exposure and lastly is all about the treatments that we can do to solve these. Proper attire should be used in the area and this should be informed to the e staff.

There are a lot of ways in which you can really say that your staff learned something from the training that they have:

If there are terms that the staff does not understand from the glossary, then ask her or him to repeat it and let her discuss the meaning of such word. You need to evaluate the format of the MSDS before you can actually discuss the individual chemicals because there specific information included in the sheets that would help the staff look for them easily.

The implications of the exposures in the area and the methods that you do everyday should be talked about. You need to make sure that your employees know what kind of substances is very dangerous by putting a label on it. Teaching the staff about emergent measures is very important so that they will be able to respond to the situation and you also need to highlight the proper way of handling the substances.

You also need to mention to them about the special precautions for materials that are combustible and the proper disposal of the chemicals.

All the manufacturers of the substances are required to have their MSDS. Easy access of the MSDS and the training sessions that the staff had really helped them to make a difference when emergency will occur.
